Hilda E. Sievers, 87, of Tripoli, died Friday, November 30, 2012, at the Tripoli Nursing Home.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 3, 2012, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Siegel of rural Waverly with Rev. Eugene Walther officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2012, at Rettig Funeral Home in Tripoli and for one hour before services at the church on Monday. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.
Hilda Emilie, daughter of Christopher and Dorothea Moeller Meier, was born December 16, 1924, in rural Bremer County, Iowa. She was baptized January 11, 1925, and confirmed in 1938, at St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church, Siegel which is now St. John’s United Church of Christ, Siegel. She received her education in the rural Bremer County schools. On May 5, 1944, she was united in marriage to Herbert H. Sievers at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple farmed for many years northwest of Tripoli prior to moving in to town in 1972. In addition to her homemaking duties, Hilda also worked at the Tripoli Nursing Home for a time. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Siegel and was active with the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, crocheting, baking, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Hilda is survived by four children, Ronald Sievers of Sumner, Jana (Richard) Bauer of Keokuk, Harry (Linda) Sievers of Tripoli, and Mary (Michael) Harms of Frederika; twelve grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; and her extended family, Everette and Sharon Funk and family of Tripoli.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert on May 20, 1991; her parents; and three brothers, John, Clarence, and Ernest Meier.
